Christmas and Hanukkah shouldn't be watered down
USATODAY.com - Christmas and Hanukkah shouldn't be watered down: "The 2.5 million parents and children in Jewish-Christian families in the USA face special challenges with the desire to honor both faiths without hopelessly confusing the kids. This year, the challenge will be greater than ever: For the first time since 1978, the first day of Hanukkah overlaps with Christmas Day.
Christmas marks the birth of Jesus, who Christians believe is the son of God. Hanukkah celebrates the rededication of the ancient Temple after a successful revolt by the Maccabees against both Greeks and other Jews who had defiled it.
The diverse ways that interfaith families celebrate the holidays certainly contribute to rich family experiences. Only some of them, though, provide rich religious experiences. And the evidence indicates that Americans want more, not less, religion in their lives."
